NavaCup awards seventeen deserving students with new netbook computers at its 2nd Annual Awards Presentation in Toronto

TORONTO, ON, Nov 02, 2010 – The NavaCup Charity Golf Tournament (NavaCup) today recognized seventeen deserving students in the East Scarborough community with a new netbook computer at its 2nd Annual Awards Presentation in Toronto.

The lack of a PC in the home places a child at a disadvantage to their peers at school by creating a digital divide which limits a child’s access to on-line school resources, online research and other web-based learning opportunities. The annual NavaCup was created to raise funds to purchase affordable, low-power, connected laptops for children so that they may excel in their studies.

Partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough, the awards recipients were chosen on a combination of financial need as well as demonstrated commitment to their studies and their community. The netbooks are donated directly to the children and not the institutions themselves.

“In 2010, with generous participation and help, the NavaCup raised close to $4200 which was used to purchase seventeen netbook computers” said Mr. Ganesh Navaratnarajah – NavaCup’s Founder, President and Chair. “My first PC opened up numerous doors for me when I was young. It is our hope today that by equipping these children with a new netbook we will have a positive influence on both their scholastic accomplishments, and the development of our community’s future leaders.”

“At the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough we are extremely aware of the important role of technology today” says Ron Rock – Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough. “This donation will equip children/youth in the Kingston Road/Galloway area with the necessary tools to master technology while improving their chances of achieving success.” Ron Rock
